Traveling to NEMU Resort in Japan:

A Comprehensive Guide

This guide outlines your travel options from Los Angeles (LAX) to the following airport:  Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT), Nagoya Chubu International Airport (NGO), Kansai International Airport (KIX)  to NEMU Resort in Japan.

Detail Travel Information

Destination: NEMU RESORT

Address: 2692-3 Hazako, Hamajima-cho, Shima City, Mie Prefecture, JAPAN

Downloading Train App such as JAPAN TIMES BY NAVITIMES are highly recommended.

Here are two convenient travel options (more detailed information follows in the next section):

Option 1: Arrive in Tokyo and Travel to Nagoya on the Same Day

Fly into either Haneda (HND) or Narita (NRT) airport in Tokyo. From either airport, take a local train to Shinagawa or Tokyo Station.   HND is closer to the center of Tokyo and less travel time.  At either of these stations, connect to the Tokaido Shinkansen (consider the Nozomi for the fastest travel) and travel to Nagoya Station. This option allows you to complete the bulk of your travel to Nagoya on your arrival day, making your trip to NEMU Resort the following day (5/25) easier.  You can choose the flight that is arriving early in the morning (5 AM) of the 25th and get to the retreat center by 3pm as an option.

Option 2: Arrive in Nagoya and Stay Overnight

Fly directly into Chubu International Airport (NGO) in Nagoya. You can choose to stay overnight near the airport or travel into Nagoya city and stay near Nagoya Station. The next morning, take a local train from Nagoya Station to the station closest to the NEMU Resort.

These options break up your travel and allows for a more relaxed arrival on the first ay of retreat.

Travel Tips for Japan:

You may not need a reservation from the airport to Shinagawa or Tokyo, but just in case if you would like to reserve a seat, and you know the exact time you would like to ride, you can use the following links:

Narita to Shinagawa or Tokyo (Narita Express) : Reservation Link

For Shinkansen, Please read the following luggage size restriction

Haneda to Shinagawa (Keikyu Airport Line Airport Rapid Ltd. Express) : Information Link (You do not need a reservation)

   Haneda to Shinagawa

・Nagoya and Shinagawa Stations: These are large and can be confusing. Allow plenty of time for transfers to avoid getting lost.

・Shinkansen Reservations: Booking your Shinkansen (especially the Nozomi) in advance is not required, but recommended, especially if you have oversized luggage. Shinkansen Reservation

・Luggage on the Shinkansen: Oversized luggage requires a reservation to secure a specific seat and luggage space. While many passengers place smaller to medium size  suitcases in front of their seats, reserving a seat if you are planning on bringing a larger suitcase.

・For reference on luggage size limits, refer to the website

Shinkansen travel is comfortable with ample legroom. Let me know if you have any other questions!

・Station Navigation: Be prepared to navigate stations using escalators, elevators, and slopes. Factor this into your transfer times.

PASMO is an IC card that can be used on transportation in Japan.  Adding it to your iPhone or Apple Watch Wallet app makes using PASMO easier,
more convenient, and smarter.

Complimentary shuttle service:

I will assist with arranging the free shuttle that runs between Kashikojima Station and NEMU Resort.   I will email you separately to arrange the time.  Another option to consider is taking a taxi to or from Ugata Station. Ugata usually has more trains stopping there, which might be a bit quicker for you.  Please note that most of the taxi drivers don't speak English.  Have your translation app ready.  Just in case you need a taxi, here's the recommended company by the Hotel (there's no Uber service since it is a very small town):

Company: Waei Taxi
